Recycling can take many forms and they all help the community

What to do?

  • Use recycle bins given to you by the local council.
  • Set up a compost bin if you have the room.
  • Don't throw out your unwanted items, many will still be useful to someone.Often you can donate things to various community groups or list them on Freecycle which is an email group.
  • Freecycle is also good for obtaining items that you may need. You get them for free and help reduce CO2 emissions at the same time.
  • Try to avoid disposable stuff.Buy things that you can reuse, for example rechargeable batteries and non plastic shopping bags.
  • Try to get things repaired rather than throwing them out and buying a replacement.
  • Buy second hand things rather than new ones.
  • Avoid goods that are excessively packaged.
  • Stop your junk mail.
  • Use your computer to organize and email documents rather than dealing with paper versions.

How does it help?

  • When things are reused, a lot of energy is saved which in turn causes less carbon emissions.

Other advantages

  • Pollution in general is minimized.
  • You can save money.
  • Less rubbish is produced which is a help to the environment and ultimately to your health.
