More and more people are discovering the joys of cycling and the associated health benefits.

What to do?

  • Use public transport when possible. Many countries have excellent public transport facilities.
  • Use a bicycle to get around, this is particularly effective in the inner city.Safety of course is of paramount importance.
  • A combination of train and bike is in many cases faster than car to get around. In many parts of the world you are allowed to take your bike on the train.
  • If you cant do the above you can get a highly economical car next time you buy one.
  • If you get to work by car,a great idea is to give your nearby colleagues a lift to work if they are also driving. You can also search for or start a car pool in your area.
  • Drivers try to minimize your trips by doing many things per trip.
  • Keep your car properly serviced and tuned. Also make sure the tyres are properly inflated
  • You can use modern technology to shop, bank, pay bills and communicate on line to minimize travel.
  • Shop locally and buy things that are produced locally.
  • Avoid heavy vehicles such as camper vans or towing heavy things like caravans etc because that uses more fuel.

How does it help?

Using a car to get around is very inefficient and produces a lot of carbon emissions. Using a bike or public transport cuts down on the emission.

Other advantages

  • Pollution is minimized.
  • When you use your car less it will last longer.
  • As already mentioned there are significant health benefits with bike riding and also walking.
  • You save money.
